Coppertone Sunscreen Nutra Shield Dual Defense

So I went back to Wal-mart yesterday and I found that sunscreen I was talking about in my post a couple days ago. And yes it was the Coppertone brand! I am not crazy…hehe. :)

However, I do not think this Coppertone sunscreen is very new. Well, the bottle does not have the “new” label on it anywhere. I cannot find any reviews about it anywhere though, which is a bummer. I bought it up anyway, even though I like to buy skincare products after reading the reviews. I decided to give this new sunscreen a try.

Besides, you cannot just go by reviews. Even if a product receives all five star reviews, it still comes to down to your skin. Everybody’s skin is different and what your skin tolerates is different.

The Coppertone Nutra Shield SPF 70 Dual Defense with antioxidant down the in the middle of the ingredient list, so not much effectiveness there. However, I am not using any antioxidant product, because they were breaking me out and I just have not tried anymore. So I thought even a little bit may be better than nothing.

Coppertone has this Nutra Shield SPF70 sunscreen in a smaller bottle face version and the bigger bottle for the whole body. I bought the bigger bottle, because I have found that the ingredients in many facial sunscreens is very smiliar to the body version of sunscreens, thus it is more economical to buyer the larger bottle.

I also kind of want to find a more protective sunscreen for summer coming up. Plus, the higher PPD the better for preventing premature aging and post acne marks. Update: The PPD is around 10 judging from the CIBA sunscreen calculator. A PPD of 8 is good, anything higher is great.

The consistency of this sunscreen is very light and it rubs in easily. My other Neutrogena SPF 30 color boosting sunscreen is much thicker. The smell is very light too, I could not even detect one. So far I like it, but it is only the first day. Update, to follow if breakouts or no breakouts occur.

Have a great day and don’t forget to wear sunscreen everyday, rain or shine! :)

The Nutra Shield stained all my clothes! Two pairs of white capris are a nasty yellow and a blue pair is yellowed also. A brand new white denim jacket is yellow around the neckline where it touched my skin.

There is a small disclaimer on the bottle that it may stain some fabrics. It stained everything- tee shirts, underwear. I’ll never buy it again.

Nothing removes it-not even a paste of Oxi-clean and water.

I am sorry your clothes got stained! I have not noticed any yellow stains with this sunscreen.

However, if you look at the label of most sunscreens, especially ones with the ingredient avobenzone, it says it may stain fabrics. So it is not only Nutra Shield Coppertone sunscreen.

Perhaps, try waiting longer for the sunscreen to dry and absorb before getting dressed or use an all physical sunscreen on your body and see if that works.

You might try using The Works tub & shower cleaner on the yellow stains, I have heard it will take the stain out.

    Good luck.

    Hi Allykat,

Like the first poster I have seen a problem with this product. I bought the Coppertone Nutra Shield as I normally need a moisturizer for dry skin on my face and the combination of sunscreen and moisturizer seemed like a good thing. Normally I just use handcream on my face and it works fine. I used the Coppertone stuff for the first time today when I went for a run. I don't know if it is the Coppertone alone or the mix of coppertone and sweat but the collar and cuffs of my white shirt (polyester "technical" running shirt) were bright orange when I got back. Basically any place where the sunscreen touched the fabric was discoloured.

On the bright side it seemed to wash out ok with cold water and just handsoap but I don't want to have that extra chore after each run. So for me it is back to Bannaboat Sport for a sunscreen.

So I will probably use it up as a summer moisturizer on my face but not use it for when I run and certainly avoid it touching any clothing.

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for your comment! I am sorry, Coppertone Nutra Shield discolored your shirt! I think the sweat is what did it. I have exercised wearing this sunscreen on my face and neck and did not noticed any stains on the shirt collars, but I was not wearing a white shirt. I don't usually wear white shirts to exercise though, because of the other stains that tend to pop up as well.

If you are liking the Banana Boat Sport sunscreen then stick with that one for exercising. Whatever works for you and your skin.

The Coppertone Nutra Shield is still working great for me as an everyday sunscreen. I have no pimples right now and no sunburns all summer long, so I will not be switching anytime soon.

Ok. So avobenzone is a great sunscreen. But it is the nature of the ingredient to stain light colored fabrics. That is just a trade off you have to deal with for protection against cancer and sun damage. Don't wear light colored clothing and make sure that the product dries completely before putting on clothing. If you don't want to deal with avobenzone, I have found that products formulated for babies and kids generally don't use avobenzone. I think that some stained clothing/fabrics is better than getting melanoma.

Yes, don't use the Coppertone Nutra Shield Sunscreeen if you don't like the ingredient avobenzone. There are plenty of physical sunscreen to use. Or you can start testing out other sunscreen with avobenzone that does not stain clothing. And yes a little stained clothing is better than getting skin cancer! I am still using the Coppertone Nutra Shield sunscreen right now, I found some the other day at Big Lots by the way!

I used this product for the first time and had terrible results I would not recommend this product as it has permanently damaged my skin . I applied it to my face and went out to sit in the sun afterwards I started seeing pimples on my face I am forty eight so it was very unlikely for something like that to happen , it then went completely red a puffy especially around my chin area. I ended up having to go to a skin doctor and it turns out I had to get skin therapy and I hadto have my skin burned to kill the infected area in order for the new skin to grow they would also like me to get laser therapy never again will I use this product
