Happy Father’s Day to all you great dad’s out there! Thank you for always being there for your children and all that you do. May God bless our dads or father-figures in our lives!
Below is a video of the history of Father’s Day, that I thought was very moving. The first Father’s Day occurred on July 5th, 1908 when all these men passed away. Grace Golden Clayton mentioned it to her pastor in order to honor these fathers, as shown in the video. Also the history channel talks about Spokane Washington, where Sonora Smart Dodd heard a sermon in 1909 on Mother’s Day and she thought there should be a Father’s Day too. She wanted to show how thankful she was for her father who took care of her and her siblings after her mother’s death.
“In 1924, President Coolidge recommended that Father’s Day become a national holiday. President Johnson designated the third Sunday of June to be Father’s Day in 1966. It was not until 1972 that President Nixon instituted Father’s Day as a national observance.”(history.com)
