I went and a got a free cancer skin screening this weekend. It was the Road to Healthy Skin tour bus that came to Rite Aid sponsored by Aveeno. I got my whole family to come with me to get checked out as well.
They set up a tent and table outside of the bus with an assistant there to hand out forms to sign. I got their early to avoid lines and there were still a couple people before me. The assistant said good thing we got there early because later in the day there are long lines!
When it was time to go inside the bus, there was a little waiting room with three chairs and a desk. I waited there while the first person came out from one of the two screening rooms. That’s right, there were two screening rooms and two doctors to do the screenings. When it was my turn the screening room was just like a small doctors room at a doctors office! The assistant asked me if I wanted a full body screening or a half body. I got the full. And you get to keep on your undergarments and put on one of those paper robe thingy.
Then the doctor came in and he was really nice and seem like a happy person. He examined each limb starting with my arms, legs, back, and stomach. He said you want to look at each mole and make sure they are not a irregular shape and no bigger than a pencil eraser.
I also told him that I was concerned about a mole on my face. See, I have had what I thought was a black head for about two years right in the middle of all my stubborn blackheads, next to my nose. Then I figured out that it must be a really black mole! I never get black moles. That is the main reason why I went on the screening. And the doctor confirmed that it was a mole! He said since it was very small, that there was nothing to be concerned with, just to keep an eye on it and if it gets bigger to see a dermatologist. He recommended getting a skin cancer screening once a year since I have a lot of moles and I am kind of fair skinned.
So it turned out to be a good experience. And I am definitely going to get my yearly screening, especially since May is free skin cancer screening month. So every May will be my skin routine.
They also gave me free samples of the new Aveeno Active Naturals Continuous Protections sunscreen SPF55. This sunscreen contains antioxidants and is very similar to the Neutrogena Age Shield SPF55. I tried it today for the first time and unfortunately it balls up a little too, but not as much as the Netrogena, of course this is based on only one day. So I will let you know my full review in the future.
I recommend getting a skin cancer screening on the next bus tour that comes your way. Check the Skin Cancer Foundation website to see when they are coming to you!
