SkinCare Product Marketing Hype

Be careful when buying any product. Some brands may only have one or two good products. There is no reason to buy all the products from one line. This is just another marketing hype to get you to buy more of their products.

Also you may hear claims that such and such company makes bad products, but it doesn’t mean all of their products are bad. This itself is another claim. This is why you should take responsibility yourself and really research the ingredients on every product you buy. This will help your skin and your wallet.

Many people have their own agenda out there. Claims on sunscreen have been coming up a lot lately. Well not all sunscreens work well, which is why you especially should know how to read the active ingredients. Unfortunately the UVA protection is not written on the bottle like the UVB protection is, which is what the SPF number is. There are bottles of sunscreen in most brands out there that do not have any UVA protection at all! And then there are bottles of sunscreen in that same line that have great UVA protection. Fortunately the FDA is working on getting the UVA number put on all bottles of sunscreen.

In the mean time look at the percentages of the active ingredients on your bottle. Use the ciba calculator to get a estimation, just an estimation, of the UVA protection that your sunscreen is providing. Also make sure to apply the correct amount of sunscreen to be properly protected or you will burn. ¼ teaspoon for face, ¼ teaspoon for neck, shot glass for whole body, don’t forget your hands too. And remember to reapply every two hours, immediately if you going swimming or sweat excessively.

I hope you all are having a fun summer!

Don’t leave U.S. Avene!

CVS is discontinuing the Avene line at their stores! It’s not even online anymore either!

This is terrible news! As you know I love Avene! It’s the most potent anti-aging skincare product that you can buy over the counter!

I don’t know why they are canceling it. I guess not enough people bought it. I think it is because many people just go into the store and buy whatever the new anti-aging product out there is! I use to do it! But now I research everything on the Internet and read all the reviews before I buy.

Advertising gets to you, everybody wants the newest next miracle product!

Ingredients come first as always. Researching out the products has helped me save so much money over all!

Fortunately, there is some good news. I looked up the store locater on the Avene website and they are still selling their skincare products in 5 states in the U.S. So if you are in one of the lucky states, then you are in luck!

Lucky me, California, is one of the states! They now sell them at Longs Drug stores!
I am going to have to check out this certain Longs Drugs store, it’s a lot further away from me than the CVS is, but hey, I am NOT complaining! Don’t mean to brag you all! I was just so heartbroken and I am so happy that they are carrying at Longs now.

And don’t worry you can still order Avene skincare products at drugstore.com! So there is hope for everybody! You can also order Avene products from Amazon! I have not talked about this Retrianl .05% cream yet, but it is stronger than the Ystheal lotion! So it may be my next step when I am ready to move up to stronger anti-wrinkle treatments! It will be a few years before that happens.

Let me know what you all think of the Avene skincare products!? I love Avene and am glad I am getting my money’s worth!

Beauty is Only Skin Deep, but are Chemicals?

Physical vs. Chemical sunscreens. It’s the never ending debate. Really it is up to you.

First of all incidental sun exposure (everyday running errands) is actually more damaging then direct sunlight! Incidental sun exposure causes 80% of our aging.

There has been no evidence that sunscreens are toxic, though researchers have mentioned some questionable ingredients.

Ingredients in anything are still being questioned, in both chemical and natural products! Even in your daily body lotion. Nothing is guaranteed! It’s good that scientists are continuously testing the ingredients, making sure that they are safe for us to put on our skin.

Padimate O/Octyl Dimethyl PABA in physical sunscreens is photomutagenic.

Oxybenzone/Benzophenone-3 in chemical sunscreens is estrogenic in some studies. And some studies say it should not be applied to large areas of the skin, repeatedly. Many doctors recommend not putting it on children! (I would follow this advice, and use all physical for babies and children to a certain age.)

However, chemicals do not act the same way they do when tested on animals, we are humans, we are different. Studies show that the absorption of sunscreen chemicals are very limited. Skin is a barrier that prevents chemicals from entering your body. Most chemicals in skin care products will not go into the blood stream, nor past the first layer of skin and then they disappear naturally. There is really no clear evidence that longterm use of sunscreens is harmful.

So we must remember not to jump to conclusions. Most Chemicals in sunscreen and skin care products are not something that should be added to your list of worries. Especially when there are other proven things to worry about, like the affects that UV rays can cause.

When hearing claims about skin care ingredients, check the source, make sure it is from scientific evidence. Many claims are often boasted by bias propaganda.
