Peels for Smooth Beautiful Skin

Peels are great to conquer discolored hyper pigmentation skin caused from post acne marks, sun spots, age spots… If you have tried using retinoid products, Alpha Hydroxy Acid drugstore products, and a high sunscreen and you are still not getting the results you want then a peel may be for you.

You can go to a spa or a doctor and receive a peel, which probably is best, because they usually know what they are doing. However, if you cannot afford it, then buy a peel from a highly referred site like MakeUpArtistChoice.com (MUAC).

Beware, if you are going to do a peel yourself, start off Slowly! Do not leave the peel on longer than the directions say. And start off with a low percentage, such as 30% and work your way up. The day before your peel, stop retinoids and AHA/exfoliation products. Many people like the glycolic, lactic and TCA peels. Lactic peels are the gentlest of the peels, so you may want to start off with that one.

I have never done a strong peel, so read all reviews, but realize your mileage will vary. Check out makeupalley.com for some more tips. One girl said be careful following the directions of MUAC. Peels will continue to work, so make sure you fully remove all of it. After you rinse, your face will be red, but it should not be red the next day. You must neutralize the acid peel, baking soda and water will work as mentioned by MUAC, but be careful with anti-bacterial ointments. If you did the peel correctly you will have no broken skin, thus you will not need an ointment on closed skin.

You skin will peel, which is what you want. Use a good moisturize to hydrate. Do not use peels too often, you could strip your skin and make problems worse. Remember to keep using a good uvb/uva sunscreen everyday rain or shine, otherwise the pigmentation will return.

Spot On, Spot Off, with Bleaching Creams!

Hydroquinone is a bleaching cream for skin that I have heard works pretty fast, even in as little as two weeks! Hydroquinone stops the production of melanin, which the sun causes. So this stuff should work. However, you have to be careful with Hydroquinone cream, it should be applied only to the spots with a q=tip. And you have to wear sunscreen with Hydroquinone! Remember 1/4 teaspoon for your face! You do not want a rebound of the pigmentation!

There are prescription strength products with 4% hydroquinone and there are over-the-counter products with 2% hydroquinone. There are also lower over-the-counter products, but look for the 2% level.

There are mixed reviews about Hydroquinone. Exogenous Ochronosis is a very rare side effect, meaning that your skin will darken instead of lighten. Ochronosis is from long-term use with a very high level of hydroquinone and it mostly occurs in people with darker skin. So if you do not see fading, then you should quit the use of Hydroquinone after 4-6months. Remember ochronosis is extremely rare and is linked with daily applications of the entire face for 20-30 years! Also, hydroquinone has been linked to cause mutations in hamsters and cancer in rats. So this is why hydroquinone has been baned in Europe and South Africa.

Now, Hydroquinone has been used on millions of people and there has not been one person reported to have cancer or mutations from the high level 4% ingredient hydroquinone. And that’s over the high potency, so the over-the-counter 2% sounds even more safe.

The most important thing, is to follow the directions! Hydroquinone is not meant to be used for prolong periods of time, it is recommended by many to stop use after 6 months. So I would use it for three months and then stop for a month or so, then start the routine back up again if need be, until the desired results are achieved. If you do not get the results you want, try lasers or high peels in a doctors office. Some people just do not respond to bleaching creams.

The products should also be stored in a tube rather than a jar, because hydroquinone needs to be stable and may turn brown and oxidize if exposed to the air.

NeoStrata makes a 2% Hydroquinone Skin Lightening Gel for around $34, that I have heard very good reviews on!

Black And White Bleaching Cream with Hydroquinone has the 2% level too, and it is only $5!

So you know me, this is the one I would try first! Love the beauty skincare bargains!

Be Spot Off with the Right Ingrediants for Sun Spots!

Sunspots, pigmentation, brown spots, freckles, skin discoloration. They are all the same thing, which are often caused by the sun. Acne can leave pigmentation marks too.

Lasers can be effective and the fastest, but very expensive! And often the lighter spots take many treatments to fade away and may not even go away! The darker the spot the easier it is for the laser to remove it. Research a lot and find a good doctor, because I do not know much about lasers. If you beautiful Damsels out there really want to get laser surgery, then let me know and I’ll help you research.
I would try topical treatments first and if you do not get the desired affect then you can try the lasers.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids work well in fading spots, but can take awhile, depending on the serverity of your spots. There are even strong AHA peels that you can buy to do at home that come in the 40% range! You should work your way up when using these high peels and be careful, make sure to follow the directions to a “T.” Spas and doctors will also perform these high peels as well. Retinoids also help in fading spots, but they take even longer, a couple of years. Stable Vitamin C serums may help fade sun spots, but they too take awhile. (I will get more into Vitamin C soon)

Hydroquinone cream is one of the most commonly skin bleaching ingredients used in the U.S.

Tomorrow I will post all about Hydroquinone cream and it’s mixed reviews in the U.S., across the world, and of course what I think!:)
